Rachel and Howard met just a few weeks before Howard moved to Singapore for a job, and within a few months, Rachel had found a job there also and moved East!
Howard grew up in Oman and Rachel also spent a lot of time with family and friends there, so it was the perfect ‘in the middle’ meeting point for their Singapore and UK friends to join them in celebration.
Their choice of the Shangri La Resort, nestled amongst the rugged mountains with an amazing view of the Arabian sea – their original plan was to get married on the beach but with a tropical storm the week before, most of it was washed away – but the backup plan of the gardens with palm trees was just as spectacular! The venue is a gorgeous place to get married, with nods to its Arabian heritage in its architecture, lighting and scents (frankincense burning for the guests was a great touch!)
They were married by Howard’s uncle and aunt who conducted a personal ceremony, with handfasting and including a part where their loved ones could come up and say their wishes to them, along with dried bougainvillaea as confetti! The country is famous for its turtle population, so Rachel gave her bridesmaids personalised necklaces in gold and silver of the marine animal.
Some of my favourite memories of the day were their readings, which made the guests laugh. As big Friends fans, they wanted to include Joey’s speech about giving and receiving, which was hilarous!
Their speeches were thoughtful and full of stories, and they hired an amazing trio of a DJ, and an electric violinist and sax player that they had heard in Ibiza, they definitely got the guests partying well until the night!
If you’re getting married abroad, and love my photography style – you can get in touch here and let’s chat about your plans!
